GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. — Even though a federal judge ruled the federal government must fund its Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), it’s unclear when those funds will be distributed.

A federal judge ruled the Trump administration has to fund SNAP by using contingency funds from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). It costs $8 billion a month to fund the program, but the emergency fund only has $4.65 billion.

During a 30-minute briefing, Tikki Brown, commissioner for the Minnesota Department of Children, Youth, and Families, said she doesn’t know when Minnesotans will receive partial funds for November.

Brown said she was disappointed with the guidance she received from the USDA.
